Erdenet Complex Institute was established in 1975 as a “Training Center” under the Mongolian-Russian Joint Venture “Erdenet” and in 1996 it was expanded into the School of Technology a filial to the Mongolian University of Science and Technology. The school was named after Sh.Otgonbileg, the Hero of Labor of Mongolia and Doctor of Technical Sciences, by the decision of the Government of Mongolia on June 20, 2001.

Sh.Otgonbileg “Erdenet” Complex Institute is engaged in research, design and semi-production experiments in the field of training highly qualified specialists and professional workers in the field of mining, improving their skills, and advancing the mining sector and EMC's equipment and technology. “Training + Research + Production” complex activities are being carried out.

The institute has trained more than 100,000 professionals in the Mongolian mining sector, more than 1,800 bachelor's degrees and more than 300 master's degrees. Within the framework of its activities, it conducts bachelor's degree programs in 7 majors and master's degree programs in 10 majors in cooperation with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology. One-year training is provided in 7 specialties and temporary training in more than 10 specialties. It also provides continuous OSH, foreign language, productivity and innovation training for the EMC employees.

The training, research and internship is led by 4 doctors of science (Sc.D), 28 doctors (Ph.D), and more than 40 Mongolian specialized and consulting engineers, and the training is conducted at a high professional level.

Students at the institute acquire the theoretical knowledge taught in the classroom in connection with practical life in the form of participation in the production process. Under the guidance of leading engineers and technicians in the workshops and departments, it collaborates with and train experienced employees.

We have been expanding our cooperation with the Alaska Fairbanks University in the United States, the University of Mining in South Dakota, the Ural Mountain University in Russian Federation, the Ural Technical University, the Irkutsk National Research University, and Ulan-Ude School of Engineering and Teaching, Voronezh University, Nagoya University of Japan, Akita University of Japan, EULID soft Co.ltd of South Korea, Freiberg Mining Academy of Germany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, BGRIMM Group, and Kunshan University in Taiwan.
